Relationship Education in Primary schools

primary school relationship education

Developing resilience skills in children is the motivation behind The Spark’s Primary School Relationship Education programme. As children learn that they have control over their actions and reactions within relationships, they develop enhanced resilience.

Relationship Education helps them cope when life, family, friends or school experiences become challenging.

Demonstrating that they can overcome difficult circumstances benefits the child in terms of enhanced emotional health and wellbeing. Families and communities also benefit as children become more capable of managing their own actions and reactions.

Primary school Relationship Education objectives

This programme aims to help children understand the importance of relationships and how to manage them effectively. By developing an understanding of what healthy relationships look like, children are better able to manage their existing and future relationships. They become more aware of their emotions, emotional responses and the consequences of their behaviour.

Primary School Relationship Education programme delivery

The Spark’s Relationship Education programme is delivered over six weeks with each workshop lasting one hour.

Our Children and Young People Team (CYP) use a counselling-based methodology, encouraging an exploration of what lies behind the words and actions of individuals.

By taking a non-judgemental and empathetic approach, children can fully express themselves and gain insight in to the reasons behind their actions. This insight can lead to modified action and change, building a child’s resilience to face life’s challenges.
