
Train the Trainer for Counsellors incorporates the SQA devised Group Counselling Skills unit (SCQF Level 7) and Conduct the Assessment Process PDA (SCQF Level 8) and two CPD workshops: Developing the Trainer and The Continuous Training Cycle.
This programme is recognised by Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) to meet the training qualification requirements for trainer accreditation.
The programme is delivered by our warm and professional training team. Each trainer brings their own individual experiences to teach the necessary blend of theory and practice.
Who is the course for?
This course is designed to support qualified counselling practitioners who aspire to become trainers and facilitators on counselling courses.
It is equally well-suited for mentors, tutors, coaches, instructors, or anyone with a counselling award at diploma level seeking to take on training responsibilities alongside their primary employment.
What will participants learn?
Group Counselling Skills (F1EK 34) – SCQF Level 7
This Unit is designed to allow you to develop your knowledge of group counselling skills and to develop your skills both as a group participant and as a group facilitator.
On completion of this Unit, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of group process and dynamics within a personal development group.
- Develop and demonstrate self-awareness as a group participant.
- Develop and demonstrate group facilitation skills.
Conduct the Assessment Process (GF8P 48 & H290 35) – SCQF Level 8
This Unit is for assessor-candidates who are assessing learners in a classroom or other off-job training environments such as training centres and workshops. There are four tasks in this unit:
- Task 1: Agree assessment arrangements with candidates
- Task 2: Conduct assessment with candidates
- Task 3: Review evidence and communicate assessment decisions to candidates
- Task 4: Contribute and conform to internal quality assurance requirements

Entry requirements
Participants should be able to demonstrate that:
- they are qualified counselling practitioners with a counselling award at diploma level (minimum SCQF level 8). They should also be a registered member of a professional counselling body (BACP, COSCA, BABCP etc.)
- have some experience of assessing students’ work
- have some experience in co-facilitating small groups
- they are currently or will be involved in the delivery of a COSCA skills course.
Participants without experience in assessment or delivery may still be accepted on to the course, however they may be required to meet with course tutors in the first instance.

The Train the Trainer for Counsellors course takes place over eight in person days from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Course fees
The full course fee is £550 and is payable in four monthly instalments of £125 (March, April, May and June) plus a £50 deposit when accepted to secure your place on the course.
