The 2019 Social Enterprise Awards Scotland was a night of celebration for The Spark as the charity collected the prestigious ‘Social Impact Award’.
Hosted at the Scottish Parliament, the awards are the country’s annual celebration of social enterprise. They recognise the impact, innovation and success of social enterprises aiming to change local communities and lives for the better.
The Spark – Scotland’s leading counselling and relationship support provider – was recognised for their extensive work providing in-school counselling and support services. The Spark is the biggest provider of therapeutic counselling and support services to schools in Scotland, working with both primary and secondary school children and young people.
Social Enterprise Awards Scotland win “a great honour”
“Winning the Social Impact Award at this year’s Social Enterprise Awards Scotland is a great honour for The Spark”, said the charity’s Chief Executive, Stella Gibson who collected the award.
“It recognises the vital difference our counselling services are making to children and young people as they deal with the challenges of growing up.”
The Spark: making a positive impact for Scotland’s children and young people
Since 2015, demand for The Spark’s in-school counselling services has increased exponentially. As a result, the charity supported nearly 5,000 children, young people and their families during the 2018/19 academic year.
Through a mixture of one-to-one counselling sessions, group work, parent meetings, school assemblies and teacher conferences, The Spark supports children and young people to close the poverty-related attainment gap.
In the same period, The Spark increased their provision of counselling for adults – individuals and couples – by over 40%. Meanwhile, their free online resources for parents, children and young people have proven to be very popular.
Social Enterprise Awards win helps to showcase The Spark’s school counselling services
“The Spark is all about making a real difference to the lives and relationships of people in Scotland. It is fantastic to be able to showcase that impact through our win at the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland.”
“We’re absolutely delighted and grateful to the panel for the award and to BAM Nuttall for their sponsorship of the category.”
