THE SPARK BLOG

It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at The Spark between being a finalist in the Enterprise awards and our training courses. Speaking of courses, I actually participated in one of them. Scottish Mental Health First Aid to be exact.

The course was originally developed in Australia but was introduced to Scotland in 2003. As the name “First Aid” implies, the course gives those taking it the skills to help a person until they can speak to an appropriate professional for treatment. It’s a worthwhile skill to have in your toolbox now that we are aware of how common mental health problems are in our society. Personally I think taking part helps to remove the stigma attached to some forms of mental illness.

If you would like to know more about our training courses you can find information on them in our Professionals section, or get in touch with us.

For those specifically interested in Scottish Mental Health First Aid, the following resources may be helpful to you.

Depression: Action on Depression, MIND, Scottish Association for Mental Health.
Self Harm: Penumbra, Scottish Recovery Network, National Centre for Eating Disorders.
Anxiety: Anxiety UK, No Panic.

These are just a very small selection of the resources available online. If there’s a specific site that you feel we should have mentioned, tweet us a link @SparkScotland.
