THE SPARK BLOG

It’s quite common for videos to go viral online. Some go viral because they bring a smile to your face; and some because they tug on your heart strings. Recently I came across a video that fell into the latter category, and since its International Dog Day I thought I’d share it with you.

What I liked about this video is that it really highlights how many different ways Service Dogs, or Assistance Dogs, can be used to help their charge. We mostly think of them as Seeing Eye dogs, but they can be trained to be whatever is needed to help someone live their day to day life.

In the case of this video the dog is trained to respond to his owner’s distress. However the different tasks these dogs are trained to undertake can be quite surprising. Some are specifically trained to be able to help their human with tasks around the house, while others are simply there to give their human a reassuring presence in an environment that makes them uncomfortable.

If you want to know more about the amazing things Assistance Dogs can do read all about it over on Canine Partners’ website.

If you’re anything like me then you probably talk to your dog like he, or she, will answer you back. It can be a good way to help you to work something out (while your dog gives you funny looks. Just me? Fair enough). If you don’t have a pet to chat to why not give The Relationship Helpline a call. See what I did there?

Let us know what you thought of the video over on Twitter.
